Hi, I’m new to the group and also to tying flies, but I’ve just bought a vice and wonder if you could please point me in the right direction as to what is the list of basic tools required and maybe some good suppliers?
Hi Malcolm, I am a bit late joining the forum but I would say have a go at tying. I dabble a bit but like to invent a few different fly's, working on the "give them something they have never seen before" theory. I have had a few successes that have surprised myself. Great fun!!
Hi Malcolm I used to tie my own but now find it more convenient to buy them.
I still have an awful lot of fly tying materials, vice etc. You would be more than welcome to them at our first possible meeting after lockdown should you require them. Would be my pleasure for them to go to a good home.
That's very kind of you Colin, I'll take you up on your kind offer when the Club's fishing again. 'Hope Boris has good news for us on Sunday, so that we can at least fish on our own. Regards, Malcolm
Thread in Back & Olive, bobbin holder to hold thread, bobbin threader to get thread onto bobbin, scissors, marabou black, olive, hooks will depend on which flies you are tying, varnish to finish the head, this will get you started.
I have been fly tying for over 40 years quite honestly you are probably better of buying flies as most of the materials are quite expensive.
Most decent hooks will cost between 10- 16p each thats before you by the rest of the materials.

Hi Malcolm it may take a while for members to make use of the forum. Although I don't tie I will ask one of the guys to reply to reply to you.
Hope to see you when we allowed to have a club outing.
Best Michael
